Carbon Dioxide: The Demonized Gas That Feeds the Planet and Fights Cancer

Carbon dioxide has been cast as pure poison by the global-warming population-reduction fanatics: Bill Gates, the WHO, and their allies. They scream that we must slash CO₂ to “save the planet.” Their stated goal is net zero CO₂ and other greenhouse gasses by the second half of the century through restrictions on farming, ranching, renewable energy mandates/subsidies, coal phase-outs, vehicle efficiency/electrification rules and industrial regulations (Will data centers be exempt?)

Yet the moment you learn what CO₂ actually does and how important it is for sustaining life, a far darker question emerges: Are they really trying to save the Earth, or simply trying to thin the herd so they can more easily dominate what remains of the planet?

The same molecule they treat as a death sentence is the basic food of every plant on Earth, the primary reason vast regions of the planet have grown dramatically greener in recent decades, and an essential compound inside the human body that improves oxygen delivery to cells, calms the nervous system, fights inflammation, and demonstrates real anti-cancer effects. The public never hears any of this. That deliberate silence is exactly why the truth must be told.

Plants, Greening, and a More Productive Earth

Every green plant takes in carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight and turns them into sugar and oxygen through photosynthesis. Without CO₂ there would be no plants, no crops, no forests, and eventually no animals or people. It is a striking irony that the movement most insistent on reducing atmospheric CO₂ styles itself the “green” movement, even as rising CO₂ has been the chief fertilizer behind Earth’s recent greening.

Satellite measurements show large parts of the planet have become greener in recent decades. Earth’s total leaf area has increased by about 18 million square kilometers over roughly 33 years. [1]

Another set of data found an 11 percent increase in greening over 28 years. Researchers estimate that about 70 percent of this extra greening comes from rising atmospheric CO₂ acting as a natural fertilizer. [2]

Coniferous forests expanded at about 4.2 percent per year in studied areas between 1999 and 2015. Higher CO₂ also helps plants use water more efficiently. They do not need to open the tiny pores on their leaves as wide or as long, so they lose less moisture. Studies document clear gains in water-use efficiency over the last century; tropical trees improved theirs by 29 to 46 percent over 30 years. [3]

Overall plant productivity (gross primary production) has risen about 31 percent since 1900. [4]  Commercial greenhouse growers have known this for decades and deliberately raise CO₂ levels because plants respond with stronger growth.

Health Benefits of Carbon Dioxide in the Human Body

CO₂ is required for proper oxygen delivery. Oxygen does not simply float into cells. Through the Bohr effect, CO₂ helps hemoglobin release oxygen where it is needed. [5] When tissue CO₂ drops too low, oxygen can stay locked to hemoglobin even if blood oxygen levels look fine. This creates cellular hypoxia. Hyperventilating (blowing off too much CO₂) produces this problem; breathing into a paper bag works by restoring CO₂ so oxygen can be released. Illustration below depicts the Bohr effect on the pulmonary air sac (Alveolus)

CO₂ activates the rest-and-digest system.

Immersion in CO₂-rich water has been shown to increase the high-frequency component of heart-rate variability. This signals stronger parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) activity that supports healing, digestion, and better sleep. Many people report feeling more relaxed and better hydrated after drinking carbonated water; the extra CO₂ is one likely reason. [6]

Anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects.

CO₂ acts as a potent anti-inflammatory gas. It can inhibit tumor metastasis, encourage cancer cells to undergo apoptosis (programmed cell death), and block the HIF-1α pathway that helps cells turn cancerous under low-oxygen conditions. Cancer cells often have more alkaline interiors; proper CO₂ levels help maintain a healthier internal environment. [7] [8] [9] [10]

Therapeutic uses already in practice.

Carbonated baths and spas that add CO₂ to the water have been used for circulatory problems and peripheral vascular disease. They improve blood flow in the tiny vessels of the skin and deeper tissues. The same approach has been applied to diabetic wounds (to lower amputation risk) and as supportive therapy after stroke, helping deliver oxygen more effectively into tissues. Natural hot springs contain elevated CO₂ and produce similar feelings of relaxation and improved circulation for many people. [11]

Simple everyday ways people raise their CO₂.

  • Drinking carbonated water (the dissolved CO₂ is absorbed).  You can purchase home soda makers / home carbonators for under $100.00
  • Breathing through the nose rather than the mouth, especially during sleep or exercise.
  • Spending time in natural mineral springs or using certain CO₂-containing skin products that improve local blood flow and hydration.

Putting the Pieces Together

CO₂ is not optional. Plants use it as food and grow better, greener, and more water-efficient when more is available. Inside the human body it is required for proper oxygen release, helps calm the nervous system, reduces certain inflammatory and tumor-promoting signals, and supports better micro-circulation. Rising atmospheric levels have already produced measurable greening of the planet. At the same time, therapeutic and everyday ways of supporting healthy tissue CO₂ levels appear to aid several aspects of human health.

So when the same powerful voices that demand we starve the atmosphere of this life-giving gas also refuse to acknowledge its benefits for plants, for oxygen delivery, for calm, for inflammation control, and even for fighting cancer, the original question returns with even greater force: Are they truly trying to “save the planet,” or are they deliberately restricting the very molecule that feeds the Earth and strengthens human life so they can more easily control and thin the population that remains?
