    APOSTLE PETER

One day our son, Peter, was visiting and he mentioned to us that he was going to shave his beard. I quickly grabbed my camera, wrapped a sheet around his shoulders and snapped a few bearded shots of our son. Thus, he became the subject of my next painting… the Apostle Peter.

Apostle Peter is painted on masonite board covered with five coats of Renaissance marble gesso. The ten-value verdaccio (grey-green) palette was used for the underpainting. The finished painting was coated with a special oil medium. Once it dries for one year it will be coated with damar varnish.

Because Apostle Peter is painted on board, not canvas, and with the science of fat over lean paints, it should last hundreds of years if treated with care and kept out of direct sunlight.
