JESUS AND THE VET

Oil on Panel
30″ x 40″
Available

“Jesus and the Vet” depicts the physical and spiritual healing power of Jesus Christ flowing into the veteran. The man who posed for the picture is a Vietnam veteran who has received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.  He is also our neighbor. I chose to keep the actual face of Jesus to your imagination.

The painting is mostly painted in the grey under-painting palette of “grisaille.” The grey represents spiritual and physical death. Jesus, who represents life, is painted in color. The arm is highlighted to show the healing power flowing down through Jesus’ arm into the vet.  The vet is looking up at Jesus with hope in his eyes. Physical and spiritual life is flowing into the vet as the flesh color goes down his arm  covering the grisaille/grey skin. The picture is supposed to show the actual physical and spiritual healing “in progress” as we view it.

“Jesus and the Vet” is painted on un-tempered masonite which was wrapped with Belgian linen and coated with five layers of Renaissance marble gesso. The finished painting is coated with oil medium. After drying one year, it was coated with five layers of damar varnish. It should last hundreds of years if handled with care and kept out of direct sunlight.
