THE LAMB

Oil on Panel
20″ x 16″
Available

My niece, Sister Catherine, who lives in Leeds, England, took a picture of a lamb standing by its’ Mother’s leg in the English countryside. I chose to  paint the lamb peaking out from a barn. The wooden door represents the cross. Jesus is called the Lamb of God who was slain for our sins.

The Lamb was painted on un-tempered masonite coated with five layers of Renaissance marble gesso. The back of the board is supported with oak strips. The wooden door is textured using gesso and a palette knife. It was painted ala prima. After drying one year it was coated with several layers of damar varnish.

The wooden door is textured using Renaissance marble gesso and a palette knife. The grisaille (grey) ten-value palette was used for the under-painting. The finished painting was coated with a special oil medium. After drying one year it was coated with several layers of damar varnish.

This painting should last hundreds of years if treated with care and kept out of direct sunlight.
