ETHIOPIAN SUNSET

Oil on Panel
9″ x 12″

Ethiopian Sunset is painted from my imagination. Huts like the one in the painting are throughout rural Ethiopia. I chose to put a cross on the hut to symbolize my husband’s mission work. The acacia trees in the painting grow throughout Ethiopia. Many authorities believe that Jesus’ crown of thorns was made from the acacia tree.  Brad helps clothe, shelter and feed the poor and needy in Ethiopia with the money donated by Christians.

James 2:16 says, “and if one of you says to them “go in peace, be warmed and filled” and yet you do not give them what is necessary for the body, what good is that?”

Matthew 25:35-36 says, “for I was hungry and you fed me, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was naked and you clothed me…..”

Providing for physical needs is only one part of Brad’s ministry in Ethiopia. What good is food and shelter alone if when we die we do not have eternal life with God in heaven? Jesus commissioned us to go and preach the good news of salvation to all nations. (Mark 16:15) Jesus will not return until the Gospel has reached every corner of the earth no matter how remote.

Some remote tribes in Ethiopia have never heard the Good News about Jesus. On one of my husband’s trips an entire tribe received Christ as their Lord and Savior under an acacia tree growing in the middle of the village. Thus, the acacia tree has special meaning to us and is prominent in this painting.
