“Kristina” is a portrait of my daughter-in-law. When the picture was taken she was standing in front of a very detailed wall in the ruins of Pompeii, Italy. I wanted the focus to be directed at the beauty of Kristina so I left the details of the ruins out and just painted the muted colors of the wall.  In the sunlight Kristina’s beautiful red hair sparkles with golden highlights which I tried to capture  in this portrait. I also wanted to capture the smoothness of her fair skin on her face and shoulders and the softness of her wool sweater. She has a mysterious half smile, almost Mona Lisa-like, on her face as she looks directly at you.

Kristina is painted on un-tempered masonite with five coats of marble gesso. It is hanging in our son’s office.
