My brother-in-law posed for this classical academic-style rendition of Moses gazing heavenward. I draped a white sheet over his head to create the veil.

I prepared the panel with homemade marble gesso, then laid in a charcoal sketch. This was followed by a verdaccio (green-grey) ten-value underpainting. The robe was painted using a ten-value grey palette. Once the underpainting had fully dried, I applied the ten-value flesh palette. After the painting had dried for one year, I finished it with five coats of varnish.
